Redemptive Investment #2 – Innovative Education

Serving Impact Investors to Create Jobs, Bring Hope and Transform Lives.

I will give thanks to the Lord because of His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.  Psalm 7:17 “Well done good and faithful servant. You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things.”  Matt. 25:21

I am delighted to share that Talanton has made its second redemptive investment of 2019 with an inspiring Early Years Educator in Kenya!

Who is our new investee?

Founded in 2010 our new client provides outstanding Early Years Education in in a country where there is a huge need for good quality, affordable schooling.  The CEO launched the company spurred on by the need to find good education for her own children. The first school filled so quickly she opened the next one within 18 months and there are now 5 schools.  With Talanton’s investment they will open a 6th large campus in a new area that desperately needs a quality biblical-values-based pre-school.

The only Special Needs Provider for Early Years in Kenya

The Talanton team was inspired by the CEO’s vision to “provide a holistic educational experience that will nurture, educate and inspire greatness in early learners” and in the belief that every child has God-given potential, including those with additional and special needs. Her pre-schools are the only ones in Kenya that provide early intervention care – others only provide this from secondary school onwards when often it is too late for meaningful impact.

Meet Noel*, she has a daughter with special needs. Her daughter had been in a school where she would come home with bruises from bullying or left in the corner on her own. Noel was told by the school that her daughter had such severe issues that she could not be helped. So, she had been out of school for a year, until Noel found one of our investee schools, who accepted her daughter.

Within weeks the little girl was talking, and her music teacher had picked up that she could sing beautifully; she was given the chance to perform in their end-of-term concert. Noel had streams of tears watching her child lost in the music. As the CEO says “this is it, to see everyone in their special and unique way and to bring the best out of them”. * Name has been changed to protect identity.

Why did Talanton choose our new investee?

Provider of quality jobs: currently they employ 60+ teachers and staff with auxiliary support teams for music, sport etc. Each new campus will provide 20 new jobs plus the associated impact on their wider families.

Provider of quality education: bringing shalom to parents and children and allowing families to flourish. They ensure a faith-based education and have a strong outreach program teaching the children the virtues of giving to the less privileged.

Meeting a substantial social need: the vision is to bring quality education into the lower middle class as a driver for poverty alleviation and economic development. On average fewer than 12% of Sub-Saharan Africans have access to early childhood education. Significant research shows that low-income children who attend preschool are 30% more likely to graduate from high school and more than 2x more likely to attend college.

Would you add wind to their sails?

Would you consider making an investment or gift to speed along the growth of this inspiring education provider in their 7th and 8th campuses this Christmas? Or boost the expansion of the business of Long Miles Coffee, our first investee? They both are praying and planning for growth and need loan capital to give them the impetus.  If you want to find out more, please email me at David@talantonllc.com

Prayer request

Please pray for the Management Team and teachers to excel in their callings and provide safe and flourishing spaces. Pray for the children that they would reach their full God-given potential. Also pray that this will be a long and fruitful partnership as they seek to serve and minister to more and more families in East Africa in the years to come.

God’s Blessings, David and The Talanton Team
